January 19-23, 2026

 Hello Parents!

I hope you are staying warm! January always has a cold snap somewhere in the month, and I know that. Yet every year when it comes, I'm somehow still surprised. Along with cold can come snow, of course. Hopefully you all got the phone call telling you that we didn't have school yesterday (Thur. the 15th.) You can also check the TV news, or the internet (for instance "Click on Detroit"). Please remember that you are to look for Zion Lutheran, Monroe. We don't always follow what Monroe Public School District does, so please be sure to look for Zion specifically. You can also always text me. Finally, please remember that we do NOT have school this coming Monday (the 19th) because it is Martin Luther King Jr. day.

This week we learned about dinosaurs a little bit. Honestly, the children know the names of the dinosaurs better than I do! We did learn that you can pretty much tell what a dinosaur ate by looking at the teeth-whether it was a meat eater or a plant eater. If all the teeth are sharp and pointy, it was probably a meat eater. If the teeth were flat in the back of the mouth, it probably ate plants. Some dinosaurs could have eaten both meat and plants like we do.

We really enjoyed "drumming" with cut up pool noodles. We drummed to the song "Danny Go! Drum-Along Dance Party." We onlyplayed about 1/3 of the way through the song. It goes very fast, and there's a lot to remember. If you go to Danny Go! Boom Boom Dinosaur Drum-Along Dance that is about what we learned. That is the one I will go to next week. By the way, if you don't have pool noodles, you can just clap your hands.

We also made a dinosaur hat. Once they got started the kids seemed to really enjoy it. Hopefully the dino hat will keep your child playing for quite awhile.

This coming week, we will again learn about dinosaurs and drumming and the letter "d."  We will review the numbers 1-9, and the shapes we have learned about so far. We will add the shape of a star, but that one is pretty easy. Actually, they are doing a good job of differentiating between a square and a rectangle.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend! May God bless you!
