Bible Story- Our last Bible Story of the year takes place back in Jerusalem. Jesus had ascended back into heaven 10 days ago. The disciples were waiting for the Counselor he had promised. Many disciples were gathered together in one place when a sound like a roaring wind came and tongues of fire came to rest on each head. Those gathered were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages. Many people from all over the world were gathered in Jerusalem for a festival and they heard the noise also and gathered around the building where the believers were. The believers came out and spoke to them and each heard the good news of Jesus and marvelous things of God in their own languages! Peter spoke to the crowd and using Old Testament prophecies and eyewitness accounts of Jesus, he told the crowd what was happening and how Jesus had been killed for their sins, but rose again to life! This cut many in the crowd to the heart and they wondered what to do! Peter told them to repent and be baptized. Over 2000 people became believers that day alone! What a miracle! Sometimes we wonder why we can't do the same thing today. The Word of God doesn't appear to have the same effect on people, to cut them to the heart. Today it just seems to make them angry or defensive. The Word of God works- speaking the truth in love will always have an impact, sometimes we aren't there to see it, but we continue to love God and love our neighbor. May God give us the Holy Spirit to speak with passion and love about Him!

Masterpiece Week

This week we are all about art. Next year's school theme is "For we are God's masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:10

We are the masterpieces!! This week we will take a look at some art masterpieces and make a lot of art ourselves!

Our KDI for the week is Appreciating the Arts- Children appreciate the creative arts- we will look at some famous paintings, use many different mediums to make our own art and have fun doing it!

Table Activities-  This week's table activities include water colors, drawing with many different mediums, sculpting with clay, mixed media art, making egg shakers, using stickers and stamps in our art.

Small Group- We'll look at Van Gogh's Starry Night and use thick brushes and tempera paint to make art. We'll look at water color painting and do a water color wash with crayon and water color. We'll look at Georges Seurat " A Sunday on the island of La Grande Jette" and experiment with pointillism.

Large Group- We'll draw, paint and spray colors outside, make art with chalk and sculpt with larger objects.

Books of the Week- "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds and "Draw Me a Star" by Eric Carle.

Bible Story- This week we are talking about the ascension. After he rose from the dead, Jesus spent 40 days here on earth appearing to his disciples and others, strengthening their faith and re-teaching them to help them understand what had happened and what was going to happen. When that 40 days was over, Jesus met them on a mountaintop outside Jerusalem and gave them the promise of the Holy Spirit and gave them the job of going to tell the whole world about him. Make disciples of all nations! We are still doing that work today. Jesus also promised he would always be with them. Then he began to rise up into the heavens. The disciples stood watching until he was hidden by clouds. Then two angels were standing by them. They asked what they were doing. The angels told them that Jesus would return the same way he had gone. We anxiously await that return! While we are waiting, we tell others of the wonderful good news that is found in Jesus. Jesus loves them, he died for them and he lives again! We will live too!!

Have a super week!
