Ww is for winter woods.

This week we are hoping for some snow to give us the chance to explore Ww for winter woods. We will spend some time in the soccer field area, behind our playground, looking in the trees and in the snow for tracks and other hidden items in our winter woods.

Our KDI for the week is "Use of Resources"- Children gather information and formulate ideas about their world. We will take a cue from nature and think about how the woods and creatures in the woods react to winter.

Table Activities- We will use our scissors skills to try to cut snowflakes, play with fake snow, snowy playdough, create paper snowpeople, draw with a white crayon and then paint over with watercolor paint to create a watercolor resist picture, snowflake dot painting, bring snow in to play with in our water table and create felt snowmen on sticky paper.

Small Group Activities- We are planning to paint on snow with watercolors, take our art outside and create some in the soccer field, add Ww is for winter woods to our journals and build with real or fake snow.

Large Group Activities- Our large group activities will be outside this week, painting in the snow, playing in the snow, using some toys outside. Remember outdoor gear every day!!!

Books of the Week- "Best in Snow" by April Sayre, "The Snowy Day" by Ezra Jack Keats and "Over and Under the Snow" by Kate Messner.

Bible Story- This week we learn about Jesus healing a man who could not walk. Jesus had come into a village to teach and preach. His reputation as a healer and teacher came before him and the house where he was teaching was full to the brim! Some young men were determined to bring their friend who had been paralyzed to Jesus to have him healed. When they reached the house and saw how full it was, they decided to carefully carry their friend to the roof. Once they reached the roof, they removed several pieces of it and lowered their friend down right in front of Jesus. When Jesus saw him, he had compassion on him and said, " Son, your sins are forgiven." When some teachers of the law and Pharisees ( a Jewish sect that prided itself on creating more and more laws to make them better people and judges of everyone who did not keep all their made up laws) thought among themselves saying, "Who does he think he is, to have the power to forgive sins? Only God can forgive sins!" Jesus knew their thoughts and said, "What do you think is easier? Forgiving this man's sins or telling him to get up and walk??!! Just so you know that I do have authority to forgive sins- I say to this young man- Get up, take up your mat and walk!" And the man did! No one had seen anything like this before! The people in the town were amazed. They were amazed that he could walk! And amazed that his sins were forgiven. Just like that, no works, no punishments, no "we'll see if you can turn your life around" Just forgiven. Jesus forgives us from his never ending store of mercy and grace and we can turn around and extend that forgiveness to others. We love because He, Jesus, first loves us!
