Oct 20-24 An exciting week!!

 Hello Parents,

This is going to be an exciting week! But before we get to the excitement, lets get the usual "business" finished first. This week we will be learning about the letter "p".  We will be primarily talking about pirates and pumpkins. My 2 favorite books about pirates were written by Melinda Long. They are "How I Became a Pirate" and "Pirates Don't Change Diapers." They are very funny and the illustrations really make the books come alive. In Math we will be reviewing numbers 1-5. This week also ends the first quarter of the school year! Time goes by so very quickly!  In conjunction with the end of the 1st quarter will be Parent/Teacher conferences. You will be a general "report card." It is not a formal report card, but rather a general hand-typed report. (This does not go in any permanent fill. Children in Preschool do not generate a permanent file for school. That does not happen until Kindergarten.) If you would like to have a conference, please sign up online in the Sign-up Genius. (If you need help with that, you can contact Amy Vanisacker, our secretary.)

Now on the the fun things! In Music this week, we will start to learn how to play the color bells. I'm always excited to  teach them how to play these instruments. To play the color bells, you have to play them as a group effort. The kids usually really enjoy playing them. The only "complaint" the kids might have is the loudness of the bells. You will get to hear the children play the color bells in our Christmas Program on the 17th of December.

On Thursday of this week (the 23rd) we will be taking a field trip to Erie Orchards and Cider Mill at 1235 Erie Rd, Erie MI. We will all meet at the entrance about 9:50-9:55. Everyone will pay at the Orchard. The cost is $10 per person. This cost includes a hayride, the opportunity to pick 3 apples and 1 mini pumpkin, and a donut and apple cider. There is also a place for the children to play. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask me. There will be no end time. You will be free to leave whenever you would like. Finally, if it rains, as long as it is not thundering and lightening, we will still have the field trip. Of course, if you don't care to come in the rain, I understand.

Then fun week is not done yet, however! On Friday, we will have our Harvest Party here at school. All are invited and welcome to come! The children can come in their Halloween costumes. There will be games and prizes from 5:30-7:00, and a pie eating contest. Then from 7:00-7:30 there will be Trunk-or-Treat outside in our parking lot. More information is in our School Connection Newsletter. I hope to see you there!

God's blessings on your weekend!

Sharon Dorow
