Vv is for Valentines!

This week we are going to celebrate Valentines Day and look and listen for the letter Vv.

Our KDI for the week is conflict resolution- Children resolve social conflicts. Conflicts are a part of life and being around other people. Learning to resolve conflicts in a positive way is essential to a healthy relational life. That starts in preschool. That learning to compromise and listen to others, learning how to put past hurt feelings behind us and putting our wants aside for the benefit of others.  We encourage the students to try and solve issues on their own first before we intervene. We observe and step in if things begin to escalate, but suggest how they might resolve it. It's a great idea to pretend and model at home too! Siblings are great at learning how to resolve conflicts!

Table Activities- This week our table activities include Valentines playdough, tracing and cutting hearts, Valentine's slime, heart hole punch, baking soda hearts, heart bead necklace and Valentine coloring pages.

Small Group- We will decorate our Valentine bag and add Vv is for Valentine to our journal. On Thursday we will pass out our Valentines and paint big hearts if we have the time!

Large Group- We will play some Valentines games and with balloons, but our big large motor skill activity is going to Rev'd Up Fun on Wednesday to celebrate our 100th day of school and Valentines day!  Here is the information about that (you should have received it in an email also!)

Books of the Week-  "Mr. Goat's Valentine" by Eve Bunting, "The Night Before Valentine's Day" by Natasha Wing and "Slugs in Love" by Susan Pearson.

Bible Story- This week our Bible story is about a little girl. We don't know much about her except that her father's name is Jairus and he was a leader in the local synagogue and she was very sick, so sick that she died at the age of 12.

Jesus had returned to the town of Capernaum after having crossed the Sea of Galilee and when he returned, a man named Jairus came and begged him to come to his house and heal his daughter who was very sick.

Jesus began to go with him. A huge crowd was gathered around Jesus as they traveled through the city. We aren't going to talk about it much in class, but here is where a woman just touched the hem of Jesus cloak and was healed. Jesus felt the power leave him and so stopped and asked "Who touched me?" His disciples said that everyone was touching him, it was so crowded. She stepped forward and Jesus acknowledged that he had healed her and let her know that he cared about her. Jesus knew who touched him, she needed to know that he knew and loved her!

As they got closer to Jairus' house, a servant came and told Jairus that there was no need to bother Jesus anymore, his daughter had died. Jesus told Jairus not to be afraid, only believe.

When they reached the house, the mourners were wailing and carrying on. Jesus told them the little girl was only sleeping and they laughed. So Jesus told them to leave. He then went with the girl's mother and father and Peter, James and John into the room where she lay. He took her hand and said, "Little girl, get up!" and she did! He told her mother to get her something to eat and told all of them to keep this to themselves- don't tell  others that he had healed her. Jesus was doing this out of love for them

not for glory for himself. He loves us so much and works all things for our good! Share that love this Valentines Day and always!
