Science week!

This week we are going to experiment and use the scientific method to hypothesize about outcomes! We will be scientists during science week!

Our KDI of the week is experimenting- children will experiment to test their ideas. Each day of experimenting we will make guesses, record them and see what actually happened, were we correct?

Table Activities- This week we will have the opportunity to explore magnets, mix oil and water, mix liquid colors, build ramps and race cars, play with baking soda and vinegar, build with our marble tracks, see what happens when we put food coloring on top of whole milk and stick a cotton swab with soap on it in the middle and differences between warm and cold water.

Small Group- This week we will test our guesses in sink or float, pepper, water and soap, lava lamps and then add a picture of our favorite experiment to our journal.

Large Group- We will experiment with gutters, slinkies and kinetic energy with balls.

Books of the Week- "Ada Twist, Scientist" by Andrea Beaty, "What is a Scientist?" by Barbara Lehn and "Are You a Scientist? by Tad Carpenter.

Bible Story- This week we learn about Zacchaeus. Jesus was entering the city of Jericho which was in Samaria. The chief tax collector, who was wealthy because of his dishonest dealings, wanted to see Jesus. He had heard about him and wanted to see and hear for himself what kind of man he was. The trouble was, Zacchaeus was short. So he had to climb up into a tree to see Jesus as he was walking by.  As Jesus passed beneath him, he looked up and said, "Zacchaeus, I must stay at your house today!" So Zacchaeus came down and took Jesus to his house. He invited his friends and co-workers to come also and they had a big feast!

Everybody else started whispering and judging- does Jesus know whose house he's going to? What a big sinner! That's who Jesus hangs out with?

Zacchaeus, through faith in Jesus, declared that he would give half of his possessions to the poor and anyone that he cheated, he would pay them back 4 times the amount!  Jesus announced that salvation had come to this house today, Zacchaeus too is a Son of Abraham. For He (Jesus) came to seek and save the lost!

Judgement- I am sooo guilty of this! I look at others and see their sins, filthy lifestyles, carelessness. Not me!! And then I look in the mirror of the law and truly see myself, all my inmost thoughts reveal that I am sinful, filthy, careless. How dare I judge or say to myself who deserves to be saved! Jesus comes to my rescue and yours just as he came to Zacchaeus'. He sees you and me as his beloved children, sought out and save by His perfect life and innocent death and risen in His resurrection! How blessed we are to hear with Zacchaeus, "I'm coming to your house today!"
