This week we are listening and looking for the letter Ee and investigating eggs, real and plastic!
Our KDI for the week is fine motor skills- children demonstrate dexterity and hand-eye coordination in using their small muscles. We will crack a real egg and investigate it, match plastic eggs and snap them together, color an egg, paint an egg, lots of fine motor work. This is a huge need in early childhood, let your child squish playdough and clay, lots of finger strengthening needs to happen to grip that pencil and write. Handwriting, both print and cursive, are vital to brain development and reading.
Table Activities- This week our table activities include plastic egg play, cutting paper eggs, eggs and playdough, egg coloring pages, eggs and Easter grass sensory bin, eggs in slime, painting paper eggs with watercolor and cotton swabs and other egg play.
Small Group- This week we will do an egg investigation, decorate an artificial egg, add Ee is for egg to our journal and make a small eggshell collage.
Large Group- Egg toss and an egg hunt are activities we will do outside.
Books of the Week- "An Egg is Quiet" by Diana Hutts Aston and "Chickens Aren't the Only Ones" by Ruth Heller.
Bible Story- This week we hear about the Transfiguration of Jesus. As we draw nearer and nearer to Holy Week, Jesus gives his disciples experiences that will strengthen their faith. The chapter before this, the Pharisees and Sadducees had been testing and questioning Jesus and his teachings, Jesus warned his disciples not to fall for their false teachings. He also asked them what they believed about Him and Peter gave his great testimony- You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Jesus had then told his disciples about his upcoming death. They were shocked and protested the plan to go into Jerusalem and face trials. Jesus emphasizes that it must happen!
About a week after that, Jesus took his disciples Peter, James and John up to a high mountain and there before them, he was transformed! His face shone like the sun and his clothes became as white as lightning. Suddenly, Moses and Elijah came and stood by and talked with Jesus. Peter was amazed, he suggested they build tents and just stay right here, on the mountain- away from Jerusalem and all the passion and brutality that entailed, just stay here and bask in the glory of God.
A cloud covered Jesus, Moses and Elijah and a voice came from the cloud, "This is my son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased. Listen to Him!" The disciples were terrified and fell face down on the ground. The next thing they knew, Jesus was touching their shoulders and it was only him. He told them not to be afraid, just get up. As they walked down the mountain, he instructed them not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had been raised from the dead.
Oh, to stay in the glory of God, away from the troubles of this world! He is coming to take us there and he has been raised from the dead, so we can tell everyone what we know! Through Jesus blood and righteousness, we get to stand and stay in the glory of God forever in Heaven. These earthly trials are worth it if we can tell others too!
