Sept 8-12

 Hello Parents,

I am happy to say that both Mrs. Seibert and I are happy with how quickly the children have adjusted to school. They already know all the rules that are specific to our classroom. I am also very happy with how willing they already are to sit and listen. I am pleased, additionally to how quickly they have made friends with one another. They may not know each other's names, but that doesn't stop them from playing together. :)

This week coming up is going to be very exciting. This week we will be learning about the letter "s." So the musical instrument we will learn about is the saxophone. We will also talk about spiders and snakes. The exciting part about the snakes is that Mrs. Seibert has a pet snake! So she will be bringing her snake to school on Monday. I told the children they do NOT have to pet it, or go near it if they do not want to. If they don't want to touch the snake, they just have to make an "x" with their arms. Our song of the week will be "Itsy Bitsy Spider." They will also be bringing home that song/poem in a book form. They will hopefully be very excited to share that book with you. Finally, we will be looking at the number 2, and reviewing the number 1.

This coming week, we will also be making Slime. This will stay at school. If you are a parent like me, you really don't want that Slime in your house. Some of the children will be very disappointed that they can't take the Slime home, but by keeping it here, they will have the opportunity to play with it most school days.

May God bless you richly!

Peanut allergies!

 Dear Parents,

I want to remind you that we have 2 SEVERE PEANUT ALLERGIES this school year. These allergies are so severe for each child that we have EpiPens for them. So please, be extra careful about the foods you pack for your child's snack! This literally could be a matter of life or death. I don't mean to sound dramatic, but this IS the situation. That is why we have the children wash their hands as soon as they enter the classroom. We don't want the children to have any residual peanut butter on their hands.

This week we are on the letter "m." We are learning about music,  especially the mandolin. We are also listening to Bluegrass music as the mandolin is usually played for this genre of music. We are also looking at the number 1. We are trying to be extra careful when we count things to count with a one-to-one correspondence.

The children have been asking about Show-and-Tell.  So starting next week Thursday (Sept 11th), all the children are invited to bring in a Show-and-Tell "thing." This can be a toy, a stuffy, or even a picture. If you have more questions, please don't hesitate to call me.

A is for Apple

Good afternoon! Mrs. Dorow and I had a very fun and productive week with your kiddos.

We continued our week with the letter “A”. From applesauce to alligators to accordions and autoharps and friends whose names that start with “A”. The kids tasted different types of apples and got to test their knife skills out by chopping up apples for some delicious homemade applesauce. Watch out Gordon Ramsay, future MasterChef’s in the making! We also painted with apples, made a little apple book, felt the strings vibrating on the autoharp, and learned to sign along to the song “Jesus Loves Me”.

Our books this week were “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom” by Bill Martin and John Archambault, “The Wide Mouthed Frog: A POP-UP BOOK by Keith Faulkner, and “Ten Apples Up On Top” by Dr. Seuss writing as Theo LeSieg, and we listened and sang along to a class fave: The Wide-Mouthed Bullfrog

Did you find a painted rock? Aren’t they the coolest?! Keep it or take it home and hide it for someone else to find.

There are some awesome events coming up at school. Our 1st one is our annual Pinewood Derby. Everyone is invited to participate. Check out the flyer!

Right after that will be our annual Grandparents Day on Wednesday, September 17th. The kids will be able to spend the morning playing bingo with their grandparents after our morning chapel. There’ll also be a special afternoon Grandparents Day for the PM class from 12-1. Kids without grandparents attending will still be able to participate!

Also, just a reminder: NO PEANUTS or TREE NUTS. We have severe, epipen needed, peanut allergies in both AM and PM classes. Please, please, please double check your snacks before sending them in. Thank you!

Here are pictures from the week. Enjoy!
