Zz is for zinnia!

This week we look and listen for the letter Zz and learn about zinnias and all sorts of flowers and plants!

Our KDI for the week is music- children express and represent what they observe, think, imagine and feel through music. We'll be learning a growing song and singing to our plants and seeds!

Table Activities- This week our table activities will be a flower sensory bin, dramatic play flower shop, invite to create a flower, flower coloring pictures, planting pretend flowers and seed investigation.

Small Group-This week our small group activities will include dissecting a flower, adding Zz is for zinnia to our journal and decorating a gourd.

Large Group- This week we will plant our garden box outside with flower seeds (one pumpkin plant has already come up, so we won't disturb that too much), finding different flowers and moving to music.

Books of the Week- "A Seed is Sleepy" by Dianna Hutts Aston and Sylvia Long, "Inch by Inch, The Garden Song" by David Mallett and Ora Eitan and "the surprise garden" by Zoe Hall and Shari Halpern.

Bible Story- Our Bible Story this week is Jesus reinstating Peter and giving the disciples work to do. On the evening after Jesus was arrested and was being held at the chief priest's court, Peter followed and hung out in the courtyard to see what was going on. Jesus had told Peter that he would deny knowing him, but Peter disagreed.

While he was in the courtyard, several people pointed out that he was a Galilean and they were sure he was a follower of Jesus. Peter denied it, in fact, the third time he was accused of being Jesus' follower, he denied it and swore down oaths that he was not. It was then that Jesus was being led from one building to another and caught Peter's eye as the rooster crowed. Peter had denied Jesus, just as Jesus had predicted. Peter ran from the courtyard and wept bitterly.

One morning the disciples were fishing again, when a man appeared on the shore. He asked if they had caught any fish. They replied they had not, so he told them to cast their net on the other side of the boat. When they did that, their nets were full!! Peter immediately realized that was Jesus on the shore! He jumped out of the boat and made his way to shore.

Jesus was there cooking fish over a fire. After they ate, he took Peter aside and asked him, "Peter, do you love me?" Peter replied, "Yes, Lord, I love you!" Jesus said, "Feed my lambs!" Jesus asked Peter again, "Peter, do you love me?" Peter replied, "Yes, Lord, I love you!" Jesus said, "Take care of my sheep." Jesus asked Peter a third time, by now Peter was a bit hurt that it had to be asked so many times. He replied, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you!" Jesus told him to take care of his lambs and sheep again and also told Peter about how his life would end, he would be led by the hand to a place he did not wish to go. Jesus said, "Follow me!"

Tradition says that all of the disciples, with the exception of John were martyred for their faith. Martyrdom still occurs today around the world. May the Spirit give us the boldness to proclaim our faith and love for Jesus even when times get tough!
