This week we are listening and looking for the letter Ll and all the rest of the letters in the alphabet! We will be exploring letters all week long!
Our KDI for the week is Alphabetic Knowledge- Children identify letters and their sounds. As we introduce new letters week by week, we see their shapes, both upper and lower case and talk about the sound they make. We see how our lips, tongues and teeth make that sound and we listen for that sound in isolation and in onset position.
Table Activities- This week we will match letter magnets and their shapes on cookie sheets, play with letter beads, explore in a letter sensory bin, wash some foam letters, use letter stickers and stamps, color letter coloring pages, make the shapes of letters on sticky paper and explore the other definition of letter as we write letters with letters!
Small Group Activities- This week we will put the letters of our names in order, rip paper to fill in our initial consonant, add Ll is for letter to our journal and write ourselves a letter!
Large Group Activities- We will try some letter yoga, find hidden letters outside and make letters out of nature, like sticks, pine cones and leaves.
Books of the Week- Dr. Seuss's ABC's and "Z is for Moose" by Kelly Bingham.
Bible Story- This week our Bible story takes place while the Israelites are captive in Babylon. The Babylonian king, Nebuchadnezzar, takes the smartest, brightest young men to live in his capitol city. He educates them and makes them some of his advisors. Some of them from Israel catch his attention. At first they ask for a special diet to follow the guidelines God set for his old testament believers. They are strong and healthy. They are given the Babylonian names of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. They make an impression with their level headedness and intelligence. Nebuchadnezzar is intrigued by them.
Nebuchadnezzar makes a statue that he decides must be worshipped by everyone. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego will not bow down to any created image, they only worship the one, true God. When Nebuchadnezzar finds out, he gives them another chance. They respectfully refuse. At this he is incensed! The punishment for not bowing down is to be thrown into a fiery furnace. He has the furnace super heated, so much so that the guards who throw the young men in die!
But the boys do not! In fact, Nebuchadnezzar sees four figures in the furnace, not the three he threw in! When he calls for the men to come out, not a hair has been singed! They do not even smell like smoke.
Nebuchadnezzar then calls for the people to worship the one, true God of Israel!
What witnesses!! They don't protest, they don't chant, they just quietly and insistently obey God. They are respectful, but they will not disobey. They trust God and God rescues them. In this world where we are asked not to follow God, we can stand fast in God's truth. Be respectful and loving, but love God more because of how much He loves us! Praise to the One True God!
