Dinosaurs!!

This week we only have school on Wednesday and Thursday and we are choosing a theme based on what some students are playing and enjoying pretending. An emergent interest! And this two day's theme is dinosaurs!

Our KDI for the week is reflection- children reflect on their experiences. We plan on having some memorable experiences with dinosaur play this week and hope they enjoy them and learn from them!

Table Activities- We'll have some dino coloring pages, cookie cutters and playdough, create a dino habitat and make a paper block dinosaur and dinosaurs with pattern blocks.

Small Group- We will have fun with dinos and "lava" and break a fossil free from the "ground".

Large Group- We will get to ride a dino! And sing some fun dino songs.

Books of the Week- "Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs" by Byron Barton and "Dinosaurumpus!" by Tony Mitton.

Bible Story- This week we will hear the account of Jesus raising Jairus' daughter from the dead. Jesus had come back from the other side of the lake and when he arrived, there was a large crowd waiting for him. The ruler of a local synagogue was there and he begged Jesus to come to his home and heal his daughter who was very sick. The ruler's name was Jairus. Jesus agreed to come with them man. Their progress across the city of Capernaum was very slow as a crowd pressed against Jesus and walked with him as they went.

As they were on their way, a servant came from Jairus' household and delivered a hopeless message- Don't bother the teacher anymore, your daughter is dead. Jesus told Jairus not to worry or give them any heed, just believe.

Jairus and Jesus and his disciples, Peter, James and John,  continued on to Jairus' home. When they arrived, mourners had already come and were wailing in the house. Jesus told them the little girl wasn't dead, just asleep. They mocked him and laughed at him and he kicked them out!

He then took Jairus and his wife, Peter, James and John into the room where the little girl lay. He took the little girl by the hand and said, "Little girl, get up!" and she did!! She went from dead to alive! He gave her into her parents care and said to get her something to eat.

He also told them not to tell anyone what had happened.

Jairus and his wife listened to Jesus even though all seemed hopeless. The world and the devil and our own sinful flesh likes us to see the hopelessness of our situation. I am only one person, how can I stand up against the wickedness of the world? Jesus is with us in the muck and mess of our daily lives and the world. Don't doubt, just believe. Stay connected to Jesus! Stay in His Word, go to church, learn more about him through Bible Study! Stay connected to the strength we need to fight our doubts and fears each day!
