Happy Thanksgiving!!

This week we will concentrate on Thanksgiving!! We will read a couple books about Thanksgiving, think about what we are thankful for and make plenty of turkeys!

The KDI for the week is History- Children understand past, present and future. We will read about what may have happened the first Thanksgiving, talk about what we do at our Thanksgivings today and speculate on what we might do in the future!

Table Activities- This week's table activities include making pinecone turkeys, candy corn activities, making playdough turkeys, a sensory bin with gourds, corn, cranberries and sage, create a turkey out of paper and Thanksgiving pattern blocks.

Small group Activities- We will attempt to make and sail a Mayflower, make a turkey with our name on its feathers and add an "I'm Thankful For..." page to our journal.

Large Group- We'll do the turkey trot, Mayflower Rock and "Stuff the Turkey".

Books of the Week- "Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving" by Dav Pilkey and "Oh, What a Thanksgiving" by Steven Kroll.

Bible Story- We are beginning the New Testament stories this week leading up to Jesus' birth at Christmas. Our first story is about the angel Gabriel appearing to Jesus' mother Mary. Mary was a young believing woman, probably in her mid-teens. She lived in the village of Nazareth. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph who worked as a carpenter. When Mary was at work in her home, an angel appeared to her. She was terrified!! The angel comforted her, saying, "Don't be afraid, Mary!" He told her that she was going to give birth to God's Son and she was to give him the name Jesus because he will save his people from their sins. Mary asked how this could be, since she hadn't been with a man.  The angel explained that the Holy Spirit would come upon her and would make her pregnant with God's Son. Very confusing, Mary didn't understand, but she just believed! She submitted to God's will and said, "May it be to me as you have said." The angel let her know that her cousin Elizabeth was also pregnant in her old age. The same angel had appeared to her husband Zechariah. He didn't believe and was unable to talk until his son, John, was born. Mary told Joseph what happened. At first he didn't believe her, but an angel appeared to him in a dream and told him that what Mary said was true. Mary went and stayed with her cousin Elizabeth for a while, and then returned to Nazareth.

What trust and faith! Mary still praised God even if she doubted a bit at first. God give us confidence in your word and work!

Here are some pictures from our week about oceans and some kids who were twinning!!
