Dd is for dinosaur!

This week we are listening and looking for the letter Dd. We will be theming our play around dinosaurs!

The KDI of the week is drawing conclusions- Children draw conclusions based on their experiences and how they work. This is much the same way that scientists draw conclusions about dinosaurs. What animals that we have today look skeletally like dinosaurs? What animals lay eggs like the dinosaur fossils that have been found? Dinosaurs and man did co-exist, God created the entire world in six days, that includes people and dinosaurs. We'll look at dinosaurs with a Biblical worldview.

Table Time- This week's table activities include playing with dinosaurs, bones in the sand, making playdough fossils, dinosaur puzzles, dinosaur invite to create, dino coloring pages, dinosaur habitat and dino stamping.

Small Group Activities- The small group activities for the week include Dinos in lava (baking soda and red colored vinegar), adding Dd is for dinosaurs to our journal, and chiseling out a dinosaur fossil.

Large Group Activities- This week we will dance to Laurie Berkner's "We Are The Dinosaurs" and roll the dino dice to do group actions and a surprise visitor!

LITTLE BIG DIG- We have a special event this week! On Tuesday, February 7th, Toledo's Imagination Station will be coming by to do a special outreach program. We will get to learn about and experience dinosaurs! The AM program will run from 10:15-11:00am and the PM program will run from 12noon-12:45- so don't be late! Parents are welcome to attend. It will take place in our classroom. I am asking a $10 donation per student to defray the cost of their visit- you can drop it off or put it in your child's folder any day this week.

Books of the Week- "Roar! A Dinosaur Tour" by Michael Paul, "Bones, Bones, Dinosaur Bones" and Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs" by Byron Barton are our books this week.

Bible Story- This week we are learning about the miracle of Jesus Calming the Storm. Jesus and his disciples were preaching and teaching and healing on one side of the Sea of Galilee. Jesus asked his disciples to take their fishing boats over to the other side of the lake. While they sailed, Jesus fell asleep in the prow of the boat. As Jesus was sleeping, a storm came up. Because of how the Sea of Galilee was situated, kind of a lake that was at the mouth of a valley, storms could whip up quickly and unexpectedly. The disciples who were experienced fishermen, were scared that the boat was going to sink and they were going to drown, so I am pretty sure this was a vicious storm. Jesus slept through it! The disciples were bailing water, securing the sails, finally they woke Jesus up and said, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!" Jesus said, "You of little faith, you still don't trust me, believe in me?" Jesus got up and spoke to the wind and waves, "Peace! Be still!" and it was immediately calm. The disciples were astonished- even the wind and waves obey this man! Jesus is God! Jesus is God! He is the Messiah! We do the same thing sometimes! We worry, we fret, we don't think God can take care of this or that. He is the creator! Even the wind and waves obey Him. He can take care of us and all our problems. He takes care of us in the way that is best for us, even if we don't think so ourselves. He has never let us down, he loves us more than we can fathom. Trust Him!
