Rr is for rocks!

This week we are talking about the sound and shape of Rr while we explore rocks!

Our KDI of the week is observing- Children observe the materials and processes in their environment. We will look at different kinds of rocks and how those rocks were made- igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary.

Table Activities- This week table activities include examining rocks with magnifying glasses, rocks in water, stacking rocks, pop rocks and shaving cream, rocks and landmarks, making patterns with colored rocks and playing with rocks and playdough and sticks.

Small Group activities- We will paint rocks, crack open geodes, add Rr is for rock to our journals and try to recreated "crayon" rocks in a metamorphic and igneous way.

Large Group Activities- We will use our big muscles to carry buckets of rocks, dance to some rock music and have fun with rocks outside.

Books of the Week- "These Rocks Count" by Alison Formento and "Two Large Stones" part of the book "Mouse Soup" by Arnold Lobel.
