Hello! Hopefully you are as excited about this vacation time as I am! Lol. This Spring vacation is always very needed by all. There is just such a long time between vacations. It's strangely hard on the kids. They kind of get tired of one another. They just need a break. So enjoy this break, and we'll see you on Monday, April 13th.
Thank you all so much for coming to our Easter Hat Parade! The children were so excited! Actually ,I think Mrs. Seibert and I were just as excited as the kids were! It wasn't very long, but we sure enjoyed it. Thanks again!
Yes, enjoy the vacation, because when we come back to school, we have to hit the ground running. On Tues, April 14th the children will have their eyes and ears tested. Some of you have not brought in the permission slips for that. If you haven't done that yet, please do so on Monday. This will happen during the school day from 11:00-12:30. Those are the times because the County Health Department asks that you the parents stay with your child during these 2 tests. They don't take long. So the morning session can pick up your child and go to the testing room as soon as school is over. Afternoon session, you can come just a bit early and go straight to the testing room. We understand afternoon session, that some of you might be late because of the testing. That will be ok,
Then on Tuesday night, we will have our Literacy Night. That starts at 5:30 and ends at 7:00. Our theme for this school year is our Nation Parks. In our gym there will be a bunch of free books for you to take and keep. There will also be tables set up with different activities you and your child can do together. (There will be instructions on how to do the activity on the table, along with all the supplies you need to complete the project.) These activities will all be about camping. Also during this time, you are welcome to go to the classroom of your child's next grade next school year and talk to that teacher. The teacher will answer any questions you have. So not only is this a Literacy night, it is also an Open House of sorts. Mrs. Sordahl says that any parents of Kindergarten students next year can come into her classroom at 6:00 for a book reading event. After she reads the book to you and your child, she will answer any questions. So come and join us and have some fun and get any information you might need!
On Thursday, April 16th, the children that are coming to Zion in the Fall for Kindergarten will get to go into Mrs. Sordahl's room for a "taste" of Kindergarten. They will get to participate in some Kindergarten activities and officially meet their teacher for next year. They will spend about an hour and a half with her.
This past week we did not learn about a new letter. Instead, we focused on Easter and what it means for us. We also talked about what some of the decorations for Easter mean to us as Christians. You heard our 2 songs that we learned, also. In case you want to google them, they are "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Jesus Christ Is Now Alive," and "Jesus Came Out of That Grave" by Mr. Tony and Mrs. Syd. The kids really liked these songs and learned them quite quickly! I was impressed.
When we come back from our break, we will learn about the letter "w." I plan on talking about wind and weather. In Math, we will start working on our listening skills and adding while listening to a story problem. A lot of skills go into Math story problems. If we start them on those skills now, however, it won't be such a big deal when they have them in Kindergarten.
Finally, I'd like to remind you about the Mommy/Daughter Tea on Sunday, April 19th. It runs from 2:00-4:00, and there is an $8 charge per person.
