Hide and Seek!

This last week of preschool we are choosing a theme that is something that is popular with our students and that is "Hide and Seek". They enjoy hiding and being found and hiding and seeking treasure!

Our KDI of the week is Engagement- Children focus on activities that interest them. Very often the children like to play hide and seek inside, hide money or treasure for others to find. We'll add a little to the understanding of hide and seek by introducing animal camouflage.

Table Activities- This week we'll look for hidden shapes that are the same color as their surrounding, pick which background would make the best camouflage for certain animals, play memory and seek things hidden in a bag of rice.

Small Group- This week preschoolers will look for the objects in hidden picture worksheets and take a chameleon around to camouflage/hide it.

Large Group- Hide and Seek outside of course!

Books of the Week- "A Color of His Own" by Leo Lionni, "Animals in Camouflage" by Phyllis Limbacher Tildes, "Where in the Wild?" by David M. Schwartz, Yael Schy, and Dwight Kuhn, "The Runaway Bunny" by Margaret Wise Brown.

Bible Story- This week we see the launch of the New Testament church when the disciples receive the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. After Jesus ascended, the disciples went back to Jerusalem. Ten days after ascension, while they were praying and worshipping together, they heard a sound like a strong wind. No wind came, but what looked like tongues of fire on each others' heads. Crowds of people gathered around the house because of the sound. When the disciples went out, they could speak to the people gathered in their own languages! The disciples had been given the gift to speak in different languages so those gathered could go home and tell others in their countries about Jesus! Peter was bold in telling them what had happened, that Jesus was sent, but he was killed by being crucified.  Jesus has risen and ascended into heaven, but he has sent the Holy Spirit to make us bold and give us the ability to speak in your languages. The people wanted to know what they should do? "Repent and be baptized, every one of you!" was Peter's reply. 3000 were baptized that day! How amazing!! God's word is powerful!! People are still hearing God's Word in the language of their hearts all around the world and miraculous numbers are being baptized. Pray that God gives us boldness to proclaim His Word to those who need to hear it in this city, state and country and all around the world!! Jesus Saves!

Insects!

This week we are learning about insects! We have 10 chrysalis that are about to turn into butterflies, ladybug larva that have pupated and are turning into adult ladybugs and a praying mantis egg case waiting to hatch. There are tons of roly-polies outside, ants galore and grubs we've dug up in the playground. We'll learn a bit about our buggy friends!

Table Activities- This week we'll have the opportunity to create/decorate a butterfly and bugs, investigate a bug sensory bin, match butterfly halves, bug dot painting, coloring pages with bugs, hole punch everything the very hungry caterpillar ate and color parts of some giant bug models.

Small Group Activities- Our small group work includes investigating some insects and spiders, making a model bug, adding an insect to our journal and making a model of butterfly metamorphosis.

Large Group Activities- We'll catch a lot of bugs outside.

Books of the Week- This week we'll read different bug books each day, some are "Hey, Little Ant!" by Hannah and Phillip Hoose, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", "The Grouchy Ladybug", and "The Very Busy Spider" by Eric Carle, "Diary of a Fly", "Diary of a Spider" by Doreen Cronin.

Bible Story- This week we will learn about Jesus Ascension. After Jesus had spent 40 days on the earth after his resurrection and appeared many times to many people, he ascended into heaven. He asked his disciples to meet him on a hill in Galilee. While they were there, Jesus gave his disciples and us a job- Go and tell all nations- all peoples on earth!  And a promise- I will be with you always until the end of the world. Jesus lifted up his hands to bless them and as he lifted his hands, he himself, was lifted up. The disciples stood and watched until he was hidden by the clouds. Then two men dressed in white asked them what they were looking at (they were angels). They reassured the disciples that someday, Jesus would come back the same way he went up! The disciples went back to Jerusalem and there waited for the Holy Spirit to come upon them at Pentecost. Jesus is always with us too as we go about the work he has given us- to tell the world about him! We tell in word and in deed. Jesus also said, "By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:35. Let us tell others about Jesus and let us show others who Jesus is by how we love them!

Pictures from our zoo week- If you have Indian Creek Zoo things you would like to share, just email them to me and I can get them to everyone!
